HEELING VET

Providing veterinary care and professional services to island communities in need

MISSION STATEMENT

The Caribbean has around a million underserved or stray dogs and cats. This is both an animal welfare and public health concern.

The Heeling Vet will identify these populations and bring floating veterinary care and professional services to the communities in greatest need.

A MESSAGE FROM DR. ADRIENNE

My name is Dr. Adrienne Anderson and I am a veterinarian with a unique mission. My goal is to provide low to no cost veterinary services to as many underserved animals in the Caribbean as possible. After practicing in Colorado and Florida (while traveling the earth whenever possible), I concluded that my services are greatly needed outside of the U.S.

My family and I sold everything, bought an old sailboat and casted off in January 2024 to sail the Caribbean. My goal is to provide veterinary care to as many communities as possible. Please follow along as we continue to sail, explore, and help animals in need!

CURRENT PROJECTS

Grenada-Carriacou

I will be going to the island of Carriacou at the end of the month to help animals in need. This Island experienced devastating damage from Hurricane Beryl. The storm damaged nearly every single structure here. As a result of the widespread damage, many animals are in need of medical care. I will be working with Carriacou Animal Hospital, which is the only veterinary clinic on the island. Together, we will locate and help dogs and cats in need of services across the island. I will also be bringing much needed medical equipment to this area.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines-Mayreau

I was in Mayreau in June 2024 and helped many animals on the island with basic care and follow up with ongoing medical issues. I had the pleasure of working with Mayreau Animal Welfare there. This island has no permanent veterinarian. Shortly after we left, the island was directly hit by Hurricane Beryl. Approximately 95% of houses on the island were damaged and animals have been struggling with lack of care, shelter, and health challenges associated with a damaged environment. I will be returning in October to provide medical services to these animals. This includes emergency care, parasite and infectious disease management, as well as disease prevention. I will be working with Mayreau Animal Welfare once again to help this community in need.

ABOUT

Dr. Adrienne Anderson began her veterinary career in Boulder, Colorado in 2019 after graduating from CSU College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. The idea for the Heeling Vet was generated in 2020 and the company was officially founded in 2023. By merging her passion for serving communities in need, skills and passion for veterinary medicine and sailing, the concept was born.

MEET MORTY

He is a Boxer mix that came to me as a foster after being brutally attacked by another dog. He soon became a member of our family. After I performed multiple surgeries and we gave him a safe home, lots of love, weeks of healing and wound management, his limb was salvaged and he is now a true athlete, sailor and mascot.
